Since 1998, Yahoo Games has provided a free-to-play, downloadable game hub with ads for casual online play and game publishers alike. But after eighteen years of providing the service, Yahoo has decided to shut down the Yahoo Games site and the publishing venue “to focus on select areas.”
As times have shifted away from sites such as Yahoo Games, the platform was not meeting expectations by the company. But Yahoo states that they have informed game publishers on the medium to devise a way to move players off their games.
Starting on March 14, 2016, a user will no longer be able to make in-game purchases from the Yahoo Games site. The service will stop on May 13, 2016.
(It’s a Friday the 13th as well 😦 .)
