Frictional Games, developer of the sci-fi horror game SOMA, has announced via their official blog that they have sold around 250,000 copies of SOMA on all its platforms in the six months since the game’s release. Yet the developers revealed the sales are still short 20,000 to 30,000 copies to cover the costs of the five-year development cycle.
“One of the great things about funding SOMA 100 percent ourselves is that all money earned goes into our own pockets and is directly used to fund our upcoming projects,” Frictional Games’s official blog stated earlier in 2015. Frictonal Games also revealed that SOMA is selling around 125 copies a day, which causes the studio to believe they will recuperate their loss by the end of the year.
